American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM), 2011 Awards Competition
Each year the American Association for the History of Medicine (AAHM) offers an awards competition for scholarship in the history of medicine. There are six different contests. Please see the below descriptions for details.
 Osler Medal Essay Contest, 2011 for the best unpublished essay on a medical historical topic written by a student enrolled in a school of medicine or osteopathy in the United States or Canada.
Shryock Medal Essay Contest, 2011 for an outstanding, unpublished essay by a single author on any topic in the history of medicine.
J. Worth Estes Award, 2011 for the best published paper in the history of pharmacology during the previous two years (whether appearing in a journal or a book collection of papers).
Jack D. Pressman–Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Development Award in 20th Century History of Medicine or Science for outstanding work in twentieth-century history of medicine or medical science.
Lifetime Achievement Award, 2011 for an AAHM member who has retired from regular institutional affiliation or practice, with a distinguished record of support of the history of medicine over many years, and who has made continuing scholarly contributions of a distinguished nature. William H. Welch Medal, 2011 for one or more authors of a book (excluding edited volumes) of outstanding scholarly merit in the field of medical history published during the five calendar years preceding the award.

A good year for social and humanistic studies of Science and Technology in Latin America
This year 2010 promises to be a great year for social and humanistic studies of Science and Technology in Latin America. Since July 4 big events will be taking place:
Millennium and Memory. III America-Europe International Congress. "Museums, archives and libraries for the History of cience". The congress organized by FEPAI Foundation - For the study of Argentine and Latin American thought will be held July 19-23 in Buenos Aires. It aims to update the history of museums, archives and libraries of interest for the History of Science and Technology (HST), evaluate its assets related to the HST, discuss the methodological aspects of the HST investigation in museums, archives and libraries and analyze the application of new technologies for its investigation and knowledge. www.fepai.org.ar
VIII Social Studies of Science and Technology Latin American Congress (ESOCITE). The congress will be held on Buenos Aires, July 20-23. It aims to foster the reflection about the ways on which sciences and technologies may (or should) contribute to a better social cohesion and to diminish social inequalities in Latin America. Therefore, general theme for the event will be “Science and technology for social inclusion”. www.esocite2010.escyt.org
III Philosophy of Science and Technology Iberoamerican Congress.The congress will take place in Buenos Aires, September 6-9. It aims at gathering and integrating researchers and scholars from iberoamerican countries to contribute to excellence in Philosophy of Science and Technology areas. http://cifcyt.wordpress.com/
12th National Workshop & 7th Latin American Congress for the History of Science and Technology. The event will be held at the Universidad Federal de la Bahía, Salvador, Brazil, November 12-15. Conferences, round tables, symposia, seminars, courses, book presentations, lectures, and social-cultural events will be scheduled. Among the objectives of the meeting will be the reactivation of the Latin American Society for the History of Science and Technology (SLAHCT). http://www.sbhc.org.br
