Fields of interest?

Eä – Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology publishes papers on Medical Humanities and Social Studies of Science and Technology.

The Medical Humanities are an academic field of an interdisciplinary nature that connect health and medicine with the humanities (philosophy, ethics, history, and religion), the arts (literature, theatre, visual arts, and music) and social sciences (sociology, anthropology, psychology, politics, economics, law, cultural studies). Disciplines that are often included under this category are history of medicine, health and medical technology, bioethics, medical epistemology and scientific research methodology, medical esthetics, medical pedagogy, medical sociology and anthropology, healthcare economics, medical law, health politics, medical communication, among others.

The Social Studies of Science and Technology are an academic field of an interdisciplinary nature that have the analysis of social, cultural, political and economical processes related to scientific and technological activities as object of study. It starts from a conception according to which science and technology are deeply bonded with the social environment where they grow and develop, and where they also exercise their impact. This outlook does not dissociate science and technology from economics, history, society, culture, philosophy, anthropology, law, and politics.

Which languages papers can be submitted in?

Papers written either in Spanish, English, Portuguese or French are accepted. The website is utterly available in Spanish and in English.

Which kinds of papers are accepted?

Eä - Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology accepts articles, brief communications, book reviews and iconoiathric compositions. Only original papers are accepted for publication, i.e., papers which have not been published or accepted for publication elsewhere (it must be stated if the paper’s prior version was presented in a congress or for an award/prize).

What are iconoiathric compositions?

Eä - Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology, considering the relevance of pictures (drawings, paintings, photographs, etc.) for the construction of knowledge, has opened an iconoiathric section (from the Greek, ‘eikon’, image, picture, and ‘iathros’ medicine, physician, treatment). In this section authors, instead of presenting papers with long texts illustrated by a few number of pictures, will display an original composition, mainly of pictures, with short explicative texts. These iconoiathric compositions will be evaluated by referees -same as regular articles-, will have to be submitted according to the given instructions and respect authors’ copyright.

What is RSS?

RSS (most commonly translated as "Really Simple Syndication" but sometimes "Rich Site Summary") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader" or "feed reader". Read more
