Fields of interest?Eä – Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology publishes papers on Medical Humanities and Social Studies of Science and Technology.
Which languages papers can be submitted in?Papers written either in Spanish, English, Portuguese or French are accepted. The website is utterly available in Spanish and in English.
Which kinds of papers are accepted?Eä - Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology accepts articles, brief communications, book reviews and iconoiathric compositions. Only original papers are accepted for publication, i.e., papers which have not been published or accepted for publication elsewhere (it must be stated if the paper’s prior version was presented in a congress or for an award/prize).
What are iconoiathric compositions?Eä - Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology, considering the relevance of pictures (drawings, paintings, photographs, etc.) for the construction of knowledge, has opened an iconoiathric section (from the Greek, ‘eikon’, image, picture, and ‘iathros’ medicine, physician, treatment). In this section authors, instead of presenting papers with long texts illustrated by a few number of pictures, will display an original composition, mainly of pictures, with short explicative texts. These iconoiathric compositions will be evaluated by referees -same as regular articles-, will have to be submitted according to the given instructions and respect authors’ copyright.
The publisherEä – Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology is published by ISO-CYTE - Research Center on Society, Health, Science and Technology, a research institute focused on studies about medicine, science and technology from a social perspective.
StaffThe journal’s directive team is composed by Professor Jaime Elías Bortz, MD, PhD (Academic Director), Gabriela Mijal Bortz (Editorial Director) and Professor Abel Luis Agüero, MD, PhD (associated director). PeriodicityA periodicity of three issues a year (April, August, and December) is scheduled. Nevertheless, the website will be permanently updated with news, meetings, other journals, call for scholarships, grants and research projects, among others, inviting the readers to visit us daily.
Is Eä peer reviewed?The journal is peer reviewed, adopting a double blinded system. Papers will be sent anonymously to two external evaluators -specialists in each field- and the results of the evaluation will be sent anonymously to the authors. Referees will consider the relevance of the paper’s topic to the journal, originality and contribution to its scientific field, clarity of arguments, methodology, conclusions and bibliography. Papers can be: accepted, accepted with prior amendments or rejected. The evaluators may be members of the editorial board as well as other prestigious scholars specialized in the topics to which the work refers.

Are there any standards for submitting papers?Yes, in the section Information for authors authors will find two downloadable files (PDF): the first one with general information for submitting papers to Eä and the second one with instructions for citation and bibliographical references.
Why is Eä innovative?Eä – Journal of Medical Humanities & Social Studies of Science and Technology has been created under the Web 2.0 paradigm. This concept was coined by Tim O’Reilly in 2004 in order to refer to a second generation in the history of the Web based on user communities and a special range of services, such as social networks, blogs or wikis, that promotes collaboration and an easy information interchange among users.
