This is commonly taken to mean that candidates fall in one of the following categories: (a) they are UK citizens; (b) they are EU citizens who have spent the last three years in the UK either in full time education, full time work, or part time study/work; (c) they are non-EU citizens who have spent the last three years in the UK in full time employment (but not as students). If you do not fall within either of these groups but believe you have a relevant connection to the UK it is worth checking with the AHRC whether they would consider your application. In 2010-11, the ICI Berlin will take multistable figures as point of departure for exploring further the topic of its current core project Tension/Spannung. These images not only continue to fascinate cognitive scientists as a form of optical illusions, but they also function as models for probing complex epistemological, aesthetic and ethical tensions. Applicants from all disciplines are invited to link their individual project to the ICI Berlin's current core project and engage in a joint investigation which takes Kippbilder/Multistable Figures as one possible model of Tension/Spannung and as a starting point for exploring its manifold dimensions and modalities. The Institute seeks to diversify its profile and therefore particularly welcomes applications with projects concerning the natural and social sciences. Interested applicants should consult the detailed description, conditions, and application instructions at http://www.ici-berlin.org/fellowships and send their application by e-mail only to the address indicated there.
